City Council recognizes the importance of enhancing community awareness and spirit. Proclamations are a way for Council to highlight various causes or events that positively impact Spruce Grove.

Council evaluates proclamation requests on a framework that ensures consistency and transparency.

Green Shirt Day Proclamation

April 7, 2024

During the March 25, 2024 Regular Council Meeting, Mayor Jeff Acker proclaimed April 7, 2024 to be Green Shirt Day, a day created to honour, remember, and recognize all the victims and families of the fatal crash, and to continue Logan’s legacy by inspiring Canadians to talk to their families and register as organ donors.

International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination

March 21, 2024

During the March 18, 2024 Governance and Priorities Committee meeting, Councillor Erin Stevenson proclaimed March 21, 2024 to be the International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which is observed annually, to commemorate the tragic day in 1960 when police in Sharpeville, South Africa opened fire on a peaceful crowd of anti-apartheid demonstrators, killing 69 people.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 

September 30, 2023

During the September 25, 2023 Regular Council meeting, Councillor Oldham proclaimed September 30, 2023 as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in the City of Spruce Grove, and encouraged citizens to participate in public commemorations that honour past truths, and which promote reconciliation.

Terry Fox Week Proclamation 

September 11-19, 2023

During the September 11, 2023 Regular Council meeting, Councillor Stevenson proclaimed September 11-19, 2023 as Terry Fox Week in the City of Spruce Grove, and encouraged citizens to take note of this special week and to participate in the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research on Sunday, September 17, 2023.

World Suicide Prevention Day Proclamation 

September 10, 2023

During the August 21, 2023 Regular Council Meeting Councillor Stuart Houston proclaimed September 10, 2023 to be World Suicide Prevention Day, which was established in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention and the World Health Organization to promote awareness of suicide prevention, to reduce the stigma of talking about suicide and accessing treatment, and to recognize that we all have a role to play in preventing suicide.
