The City of Spruce Grove has a comprehensive waste collection program that includes residential waste collection, an Eco Centre and several seasonal events, including Large Item Pick Up, Free-cycle, Shred-4-Free, and E-roundup.

Residential waste collection

Residential waste is picked up through the City’s residential waste collection program on your waste collection day. To check your waste collection day and never miss collection day again, enter your address into our waste calendar and subscribe for reminders through text, email or phone call.

Residential waste collection includes three components:

• Garbage – black waste carts are collected weekly.
• Organics – green organics carts are collected weekly from mid-April to mid-November and monthly from December to March.
• Recycling – Blue recycle bags are collected weekly.

Holiday waste collection

Residential waste collection occurs on all statutory holidays.

Residents living in condominiums or apartment buildings, as well as business owners, have private waste collection services.

Black waste carts and green organics carts are numbered and assigned to each property’s solid waste utility account. If you move, leave the carts for the next occupant. If your carts need to be repaired or replaced, or you move into a property with no carts, call 780-962-7584.

Secondary suites waste collection

Properties with secondary suites have the option to opt-in to solid waste service for the secondary suite under the residence’s primary utility account.

Residents living in secondary suites will have the ability to choose which size of black waste cart will suit them best, ensuring they have the right size for their lifestyle, either the 120 litre or the 240 litre black waste cart. Only the large 240 litre green organics carts are available at this time

The monthly solid waste utility fee for secondary suites will be added to an existing service account in the name of the owner of the primary account.  There will be only one utility account for each property.

What qualifies as a secondary suite?

A basement suite, a garage suite, or a garden suite are all considered to be secondary suites. It needs to be a legal secondary suite in order to qualify for waste collection services.

How do I sign up for service for my secondary suite?

If you are the primary account holder, you can sign up your secondary suite online for solid waste service by adding them to your existing utility account.

Eco Centre

Various waste items, including household hazardous waste, can also be taken to the City’s Eco Centre.
