Canada Post strike impacts

September 26, 2025

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has moved to rotating strikes, which will impact the delivery of utility bills and other City correspondence by mail.

Below are options to ensure you can access and pay your bills during any type of mail disruption:

Utility bills

Utility bills are mailed and due monthly and can be accessed through an Online Services account.

If you do not currently have an Online Services account, you can easily register for one online. You can also call 780-962-7597 to inquire about your utility bill balance or stop by City Hall at 315 Jespersen Avenue during business hours (weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) to get a copy of your bill.

When postal service is disrupted, please refrain from sending payments through mail. Instead, use another easy way to pay utility bills:

  • Pre-authorized monthly payments: Pre-authorized payments can be set up through your Online Services account.
  • In person at City Hall: Payments can be made at City Hall during business hours (weekdays 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) via cheque, cash, money order, debit or credit card.
  • Drop box at City Hall: Cheques and money orders with remittance slips and your tax roll number clearly labelled can be placed in the secure drop box located at City Hall next to the southeast doors. Please do not deposit cash in the drop box.
  • At your financial institution (in person or online): Visit your financial institution in person, or follow these steps to register your account for online payments:
    • Visit your banking website or app
    • Locate the option to add a payee for online payments
    • Search the words “Spruce Grove”, which has been shown to return the most consistent result
    • Select “Spruce Grove – Utilities”
    • Enter your 8-digit UTILITY ACCOUNT NUMBER found at the bottom right of your bill. Do not include decimals.

Please keep in mind that failure to receive a utility bill does not affect your responsibility to pay the bill by the due date. If payment is not received on time, penalties will be charged on the outstanding balance.

Property taxes

Annual property tax notices are mailed by the end of May each year, with payments due no later than June 30. Tax notices can also be accessed through an Online Services account.

If you do not currently have an Online Services account, you can easily register for one online. You can also call or email to inquire about your property tax balance or stop by City Hall at 315 Jespersen Avenue during business hours (weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) to get a copy of your tax notice.

When postal service is disrupted, please refrain from sending payments through mail. Instead, use another easy way to pay your tax notice:

  • Online via credit card: Payments can be made online using a credit card via OptionPay. Customers will be responsible for paying the processing fees charged by the vendor. Pay online now.
  • In person at City Hall: Payments can be made at City Hall during business hours (weekdays 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) via cheque, cash, money order, debit card, and credit card (please ensure your daily debit transaction limit can process the payment amount).
  • Pre-authorized monthly payments: Pre-authorized payments can be set up by completing a pre-authorized tax payment form and submitting it to City Hall.
    • Select “Spruce Grove – Tax”
    • Enter your 6-digit ROLL NUMBER exactly as it appears in the box at the top right of your notice. DO NOT enter your customer number or payment may not be applied to the correct account.

Keep in mind that failure to receive a tax notice does not affect your responsibility to pay taxes by the due date. Late payments will result in a 4.5 per cent penalty applied to the outstanding balance on the first of July, September and November.

Vendors

If you are a vendor that is expecting payment from the City, please contact Accounts Payable at apayables@sprucegrove.org and provide your EFT information to receive payment.
