Spruce Grove Transit Centre

Now open!

The Spruce Grove Transit Centre is the hub for all commuter service (Route 560) into and out of Spruce Grove and a regular stop for the On-Demand Local Transit service.

Located at 50 Westwind Drive, the Transit Centre is at Heavy Metal Place. By locating these two major facilities close together, the City was able to maximize the land usage and provide shared parking for both Heavy Metal Place and the Transit Centre.

Features of the Transit Centre include:

  • Parking stalls for Park & Ride users at no cost
  • Passenger drop off/pick up zone
  • Lit and heated shelter
  • Bike racks

Construction of Heavy Metal Place is ongoing, but will not impact the operation of the Transit Centre or access to Park & Ride parking stalls. However, the number of parking stalls will temporarily be limited to 65 stalls in the southeast corner of the site. Westwind Drive can temporarily be used as overflow Park & Ride parking when snow routes are not in effect. When Heavy Metal Place is complete, a total of 600 parking stalls will become available for Park & Ride users at no cost.

The Transit Centre project is funded in part by the Government of Canada (Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program), and in part by the Province of Alberta (Municipal Sustainability Initiative and GreenTRIP).

Frequently asked questions

The development of Heavy Metal Place provided an opportunity to develop a co-located Transit Centre to maximize land use and provide parking for both facilities, while also responding to the growing transportation needs of the community, including a dedicated Park & Ride location for riders who commute into Edmonton.

The Transit Centre is co-located with Heavy Metal Place at 50 Westwind Drive.

When the Transit Centre opens in December 2024, 50 parking stalls will be available where transit users can park their vehicle and then ride Route 560 into Edmonton. A total of 600 parking stalls will be available to patrons of Heavy Metal Place and Park & Ride users once the facility opens in 2025.

No. There is no cost to users to park at the Transit Centre or at Heavy Metal Place.

No. The Park & Ride is available to anyone who rides on Route 560, including residents of Stony Plain and Parkland County.

There are no public washroom facilities at the Transit Centre. Transit users are welcome to use the washroom facilities in the co-located Heavy Metal Place once the facility opens to the public.

No. Transit fares are not impacted by the Transit Centre.

Route 560 will stop at the Transit Centre both when entering and departing Spruce Grove. This will add travel time to that part of the route, so it was necessary to save some travel time in another part of the route by removing some existing bus stops. If the stops were not removed, riders would have experienced longer travel times and there would have been a significant increase in the cost of operating the service. The number of trips to and from Edmonton will remain the same. See the updated route map for details.

To help riders who currently use these bus stops transition to the new schedule and route, a shuttle bus will temporarily provide service to the affected 12 stops and take riders to the Transit Centre. This temporary service will operate for up to two months and will run every 30 minutes on weekdays during peak hours from 5:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 3 to 6:30 p.m.

Route 560 riders who are close to Grove Drive or McLeod Ave can also walk to the nearest bus stop or book an on-demand trip to connect to a commuter bus stop or the Transit Centre.
