Winter Emergency Response returns for 2023/2024 winter season
The Winter Emergency Response will return for the season on November 1, 2023, providing shelter and supports for those who are unsheltered or experiencing homelessness within the Tri Municipal Region.
The Winter Emergency Response is activated when the temperature reaches -20 C, or is forecast to reach -20 C including windchill, for a period of at least 4-6 hours. When the temperature threshold is reached, two support programs are activated:
- Daytime warming centres, which are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at rotating locations within Spruce Grove and Stony Plain.
- Late Night Café, which is open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., seven days per week at Congregational Christian Fellowship Church (445 King Street, Spruce Grove).
Both programs provide a warm, safe place to rest, hot meals, cold weather supplies, and access to further supports or referrals if needed.
The Winter Emergency Response is a collaboration between several Tri Region partner organizations. It will end for the season on March 31, 2024. Visit the Winter Emergency Response page to see when the response is active and to learn more about the program.
