Supports for unsheltered during extreme cold weather

January 10, 2024

Extreme weather conditions are forecast for the Tri Municipal Region over the next several days, with temperatures dropping below -30 C and windchill values approaching -40 C.

The Winter Emergency Response (WER), originally activated on January 6, remains in effect, including:

  • Late Night Café – open 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., seven days per week at Congregational Christian Fellowship Church (445 King Street, Spruce Grove).
  • Daytime warming centres – open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at rotating locations throughout Spruce Grove and Stony Plain.

Both programs provide a warm, safe place to rest, hot meals, cold weather supplies, and access to further supports or referrals if needed.

In addition, the Community Outreach Team is actively providing in-person support for those who are unsheltered or experiencing multiple barriers to well-being. The Community Outreach Team is available Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 780-962-7583 or email communityoutreach@sprucegrove.org.
