Statement from Mayor Jeff Acker on the passing of Ken Lemke

July 20, 2023

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of former Stony Plain Mayor Ken Lemke, a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to public service and leaves a lasting legacy in his community. Ken proudly and fiercely represented the people of Stony Plain for over 20 years as their town councillor, mayor, and later as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of those he served.

I was fortunate to serve on City Council in Spruce Grove during Ken’s final two terms in municipal office, and I witnessed firsthand his kindness, strong work ethic, and unshakable dedication to the people of Stony Plain. He loved his town and worked tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for its residents.

As we reflect on Ken's life and dedication to public service, we honour his memory by embracing his values of connection, generosity, and a hard day’s work. May we all strive to follow in his footsteps, building strong, caring communities, and making a positive difference in the lives of others.

On behalf of my colleagues on City Council and the people of Spruce Grove, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Ken’s family, friends, and co-workers. May you find comfort in the lasting impact he made on our communities and the people who call the Tri Municipal Region home. We will forever be grateful for his service.
