I am deeply saddened to hear of the tragic incident that occurred this morning where we had a death in our community. On behalf of myself and Council, we offer heartfelt and sincere condolences to those affected by this loss. Our hearts are with you during this difficult time.

We also want to thank our brave first responders, who will also carry this day with them, for their service and heroic efforts. Their commitment to serving our community is truly admirable. Our hearts are also with you.

Parkland RCMP media release:

On Dec. 11, 2023, at about 4:40 a.m., Parkland RCMP and Spruce Grove Fire Services received a report of a deceased person and a dumpster on fire at a business strip mall on Calahoo Drive and McLeod Ave. in Spruce Grove. The fire was spotted by an off-duty officer on their way in to work.

The Parkland RCMP General Investigative Section has taken carriage of the investigation.

It is anticipated that officers will remain on scene for several hours conducting an investigation.

Any persons who may have seen what happened prior to the fire, or who have dash cam footage are asked to contact the Parkland RCMP detachment.
