Section of Rotary Trail dedicated to local resident Darwin Park as trail nears completion

October 4, 2022

On October 2, Spruce Grove City Council honoured local resident Darwin Park by dedicating a section of Rotary Trail to him.

Rotary Trail is a pedestrian connector between Spruce Grove and Stony Plain that is nearing completion. The trail is located just north of Highway 16A, alongside Boundary Road, which separates the two municipalities. The portion of trail within Spruce Grove’s boundaries is now known as the Darwin Park Rotary Trail.

Darwin Park has been a community volunteer and champion of recreation and wellness in the tri-municipal region for decades. In 2015 he was inducted into the City’s Awards of Excellence program in the Community Service category.

“The City of Spruce Grove is proud to honour Darwin Park and his many contributions to our community,” says Mayor Jeff Acker. “He has been a strong community advocate for the development of a trail connection in our region, and now that this trail is becoming a reality, it is fitting that he should be honoured with this dedication and a sign on the trail commemorating some of his many achievements.”

The sign with the dedication is located on Rotary Trail on the east side of Boundary Road.
