Heavy Metal Place update – August 2024
Work on Heavy Metal Place (formerly referred to as the Civic Centre) hit several significant milestones in August. First, there was the announcement that local business Heavy Metal Equipment & Rentals would be the naming rights sponsor for the facility, which is now called Heavy Metal Place. Second, the concrete ice slab for the community arena, which is key to making a quality sheet of ice, was poured after months of prep work.
Other updates from the month include:
Spectator arena
- Mechanical and electrical rough in work for the concourse level concession continues and rough ins for the bathrooms and storage rooms are now complete.
- Framing for main floor offices is complete.
- Painting is complete in the ceiling over the ice surface, and paining and tile work is ongoing in the dressing rooms.
Community arena
- The concrete ice slab has been installed, along with refrigeration pipes.
- Interior wall painting throughout the arena, and tile installation in the dressing room and bathrooms is ongoing.
- Drywall for the dressing room ceilings is being installed.
Exterior work
- The west parking lot area has been paved and the light bases have been installed.
- Exterior cladding work continues.
- Subgrade preparation for the front plaza and remaining parking is ongoing.
Other progress
- Interior walls for the black box theatre have been framed and boarded, and work is underway on mechanical and electrical rough-ins.
- Framing for staff offices and the art wall in the art gallery is complete and mechanical and electrical rough-ins are ongoing.
- Framing interior walls of the Spruce Grove Public Library branch has started and all interior steel work is complete.
