Construction Fire Safety Plan now required for all new residential construction

March 20, 2025

Starting April 1, builders will be required to complete a Construction Fire Safety Plan as part of the building permit process for all new residential construction.

Completing a Construction Fire Safety Plan is an important step in preventing fires, protecting personnel from injuries, and providing firefighting crews access to all areas of a construction site. The Construction Fire Safety plan is a requirement of the National Fire Code - 2023 Alberta Edition (NFC-AE, 2023), section 2.2.1.2 (14) of Division C and section 5.6.1.3.

To create a Construction Fire Safety Plan, simply complete a site specific Construction Fire Safety Plan form and submit a copy through CityView with the building permit application.
