Civic Centre project update – February 2024
Throughout February, significant progress was made on both the spectator arena and the community arena at the Civic Centre project site, as well as the co-located Spruce Grove Transit Centre. On average, 70 workers and more than 25 pieces of equipment have been on site each day this month. Highlights of this work include:
Spectator arena
- Concrete walls have been poured and structural steel has been installed.
- The main stairs from the lobby to the top of the concourse has been installed.
- Work continues in the seating bowl, including placing concrete for the bleacher steps and seats. So far, more than 2,300 cubic feet of concrete and almost 22,000 pounds of rebar have been installed in the seating bowl!
Community arena
- Work continues painting the structural steel.
- Mechanical and electrical rough in work in the ceiling was installed.
- Structural steel was installed for the dressing rooms.
- Earlier this month, it was also announced that the community arena will be named in honour of Brett Ryan.
Transit Centre
- The heated bus shelter was installed.
- Mechanical and electrical rough in for the operator facility has been installed.
Take a seat!
Once complete, the spectator arena will have a mix of seating types, including individual bucket seats, accessible with companion seats, standing room with a drink rail, and two event spaces (one on the concourse and one on the third level). The total seating capacity for an ice event will be just under 1,800 people and for activities that would use floor seating, the capacity will jump to just over 2,500!
The community arena will have bleacher-style seating and accessible with companion seating for 250 people.
