The City of Spruce Grove is pleased to announce Freetek Construction Ltd. as the recipient of the 2024 Community Spirit Award in recognition of their significant contributions to a variety of local groups and causes.

“It is our privilege to recognize Freetek Construction with this year’s Community Spirit Award,” said Mayor Jeff Acker. “Since opening their business in 1998, owners Dean and Brandy Fraser, along with their team, have given back and made a meaningful difference to local sports, education, and service organizations in our community and we are so thankful for their support.”

Freetek Construction was presented with the award at the Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce Business Awards of Distinction on October 16, 2024.  The City initiated the Community Spirit Award in 2009 as a way to recognize local businesses that demonstrate outstanding community support and make significant contributions to our municipality.

“We’ve been fortunate to serve this community for nearly 30 years,” said Dean Fraser. “Our commitment to giving back began with Parkland Minor Ball when our kids began playing baseball, and it has now expanded to supporting many local causes. Supporting the people who support us is one of our core values and we’re dedicated to keeping that community involvement strong”.

Just some of the community contributions of Freetek Construction include:

• Construction and donation of four media booths at Henry Singer Ball Park at an in-kind value of $50,000 and ongoing financial, volunteer, and coaching support to a variety of events including the Challenger Baseball Program which empowers athletes with special needs, as well as the Provincial Baseball Championships.
• Construction and donation of a wooden playhouse to St. Joseph School in Spruce Grove and participation in a student work program which gives local youth the opportunity to gain valuable skills through hands-on construction experience.
• Financial support to many community groups including minor hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and the Kinette Christmas Hamper program.

Freetek Construction was also a long-standing financial supporter of the Spruce Grove Saints Junior A Hockey Club and continues to be an annual Gold Sponsor of the Spruce Grove Ringette Sweetheart Tournament. 

As part of this award, Freetek Construction was gifted a framed original painting titled Spruce and Snow by talented local artist David Shkolny. Congratulations on winning the 2024 Community Spirit Award, Freetek Construction!
