City Council approves amendments to 2022-2025 Strategic Plan
This week, Spruce Grove City Council approved amendments to the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan. This plan serves as a guiding vision for the future of Spruce Grove, outlining the roadmap that Council has chosen for its current term (2021-2025).
The Strategic Plan is designed to be a living document that evolves over time. Therefore, Council conducts an annual review, making necessary adjustments to ensure the plan remains up-to-date and aligns with current priorities and focus areas they perceive as important for residents and businesses.
A significant update included the timing of the Spruce Grove Housing Strategy. While work toward a housing strategy has been taking place over the past few months, Council adjusted the priority year to 2024 to allow time for a purposeful and phased approach. This includes completing a housing needs assessment this spring followed by community engagement on what residents and businesses of Spruce Grove believe are the housing needs and challenges in the city. Council believes that these are vital and important steps toward finalizing the housing strategy this fall.
In addition, two actions supporting the work on environmental management were updated. The work involved in reviewing existing municipal land reserve policies was reprioritized for completion in 2025. This change stems from Council’s commitment to continue investing in the City’s natural areas like Heritage Grove Park in 2024 and align with the work underway with the Municipal Development Plan and Parks and Open Spaces Master Plan.
All the approved amendments have been integrated with last year’s amendments and released as the Second Edition of the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan.
