UPDATE – January 30, 2024, at 4 p.m.

EPCOR has identified the likely cause of the equipment failure at the E.L. Smith Water Treatment Plant and repairs are underway in an effort to return the facility to normal operations. Once the plant’s full pumping capacity has been restored, it will take several days to replenish the reservoirs and stabilize the distribution network.

Until the system has reached acceptable operating levels, the mandatory ban on non-essential water use will remain in effect for all affected municipalities, including Spruce Grove, and residents and businesses are asked to continue adhering to these restrictions.

EPCOR expects the water restrictions to remain in place until mid-day on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

UPDATE – January 29, 2024, at 3:45 p.m.

Effective immediately, EPCOR has issued a mandatory ban on non-essential water use for residents and businesses in the region, including Spruce Grove.

This is a result of required pump repair work at EPCOR’s E.L. Smith Water Treatment Plant, which services Edmonton and surrounding areas.

Businesses using large volumes of non-essential water, such as laundromats and car washes, are being asked to halt water use.

Ways residents can conserve water include:

  • Taking shorter showers instead of baths
  • Turning off taps while brushing your teeth or shaving
  • Delaying laundry
  • Washing small amounts of dishes by hand

There is no impact to the quality of drinking water.

The ban is expected to last until EPCOR can complete repairs and restore normal operations at the E.L. Smith Water Treatment Plant.
