Awareness Lighting Displays
The City of Spruce Grove recognizes the importance of highlighting charitable causes or events, arts and cultural celebrations, and public awareness campaigns which enhance community spirit and positively impact the residents of the City.
- The charitable or not-for-profit organization requesting the Awareness Lighting must have a community presence.
- Requests for Awareness Lighting must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office at least three (3) weeks prior to commencement date requested for Awareness Lighting.
- Awareness Lighting for a specific time period will be considered on a first-come first-serve basis.
- A request for Awareness Lighting is subject to the Awareness Lighting Criteria.
- The City will promote the Awareness Lighting through City communication channels, however the requesting organization is responsible for:
- any other advertising of the Awareness Lighting and associated costs; and
- organizing related activities and associated costs.
- Charitable or not-for-profit organizations will be limited to one Awareness Lighting annually.
- A new request must be initiated by the charitable or not-for-profit organization each year and will not automatically be held or reserved for the same date(s) in a subsequent year.
Awareness Lighting will occur only at Columbus Park. Requests for Awareness Lighting at any other location will not be approved.
The Awareness Lighting display will occur between sunset and sunrise on the date(s) requested.
If the requested dates are more than one day, the City will display the Awareness Lighting for a maximum of seven (7) days between sunset and sunrise.
Awareness Lighting may promote a:
- public awareness campaign;
- charitable fundraising campaign; or
- arts and culture celebration.
A request for Awareness Lighting will not be considered if it:
- is political, personal conviction, or religious in nature;
- has commercial or profit-making purposes;
- involves hatred, violence, discrimination, or racism;
- is inflammatory, obscene, or supports contentiousness or divisiveness in the community;
- is contrary to the City’s bylaws or policies; or
- is not related to the community and does not benefit residents.
