Strategic Planning is about change. It sets the direction for the next five, or more years.
The key components of a strategic plan are:
- Executive Summary
- Background on the Organization including mission, vision and values
- Goals – Specific accomplishments that when met achieve a larger overall result.
- Strategic priorities – The methods used to achieve the goals.
- Objectives – Think of objectives as “milestones” along the way of implementing strategies.
- Tasks – Various tasks assigned to individuals to implement the overall plan.
- Resources– The people, materials, products, technology, money, etc. required to implement the strategies.
- SWOT Analysis - determining an organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats - major influences that affect the organization.
- Implementation of the plan - The plan is a guideline and should be a living document that is evaluated and adjusted appropriately.
- Monitoring & Reporting/evaluating - attach review dates to the goals.
The goals and objectives should be SMART– specific, measurable, acceptable, realistic, and performable in an appropriate timeframe.
