Construction Projects (summer 2019)

The summer months are prime construction season in Spruce Grove, with projects scheduled throughout the city.

Water main replacement

A water main replacement project will occur in the Millgrove neighbourhood along Miller Avenue, Maple Street, Melton Avenue, Merrill Street, Miller Place, Marlboro Drive (from Calahoo Road to Morris Street) and Morris Street.

Anticipated completion date: Mid-October
Impact: Households that will be impacted by this work will receive advance notice.

At some point in the project, each home will be connected to an alternate water feed. During construction, street access and parking in the area will be limited.

Storm system upgrades

A storm system upgrades project will occur in the Brookwood neighbourhood on Balmoral Drive and Burlington Avenue. The project will create a new dry storm pond in the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School field.

Storm system upgrades

A storm system upgrades project, including culvert replacements and ditch grading, will occur in the industrial area, south of the CN Rail tracks.

Impact: No anticipated impact to residents or traffic.

Water main installation

A water main expansion project will occur from Century Road to west of the Century Crossing development.

Anticipated completion date: End of August
Impact: There is the potential for infrequent lane closures.

Top lift asphalt application

A final surface layer of top lift asphalt will be applied to the road at the intersection of Highway 16A and Jennifer Heil Way north to McLeod Avenue, south on Campsite Road between Highway 16A and the CN Rail tracks, as well as Grove Drive from Century Road to west of Pioneer Road.

Impact: Minor traffic delays and temporary lane closures can be expected. Traffic will be managed through on-site signage and flag people.

Pioneer Road

A new asphalt trail and landscaping will be added on the west side of Pioneer Road between Grove Drive and McLeod Avenue.

Anticipated completion date: End of August
Impact: No anticipated impact to residents or traffic.

Road resurfacing projects

Anticipated start date: Mid-May
Anticipated completion date: Mid-October
Road resurfacing will occur on: Linden Street North, Dorchester Road, Berkeley Street, Arlington Street, Arlington Place and Linthorpe Road.

Anticipated project dates: Saturday, July 20–Sunday, July 21
Road resurfacing will occur overnight on Century Road between Highway 16A and Diamond Avenue from 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, to 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 21.
Impact: No through traffic on Century Road from Highway 16A to Diamond Avenue during resurfacing. Motorists will be able to travel south on Century Road from Diamond Avenue.

Road milling and paving project

Anticipated start date: Sept. 11
Anticipated completion date: Sept. 17
Road resurfacing will occur on: Sections of McLeod Avenue.

Anticipated project dates: Several sections of McLeod Avenue will be temporarily closed for milling and paving work on the following locations, dates and times:

Impact: Please select alternate routes during this time.

New traffic signal alert!

New traffic signals will be installed on the north end of Jennifer Heil Way with access to the Deer Park neighbourhood.

Regular maintenance

In addition to the large road construction projects, City crews also conduct regular maintenance and repairs on streets and sidewalks throughout the community, including:

• Crack sealing
• Street sweeping
• Line painting
• Pothole repairs
• Asphalt repairs
• Concrete repairs and maintenance
• Traffic light repairs and maintenance
• Drainage maintenance

Reminder: Please slow down!

When driving through construction zones, drivers are reminded to slow down, obey all posted speed limits, and watch for portable traffic signs or flag people who may be in place to manage traffic flow. And please give crews room to work so everyone can get home safely at the end of the day.
