Mayor Houston and Coun. Rothe recognized as longest serving mayor and councillor in City’s history

Spruce Grove Mayor Stuart Houston and Councillor Wayne Rothe were recently recognized by the City of Spruce Grove as the longest serving mayor and councillor in the City’s history.

A presentation to mark this milestone was held on Monday, Oct. 28, and included members of City Administration, former staff, current and past members of council, as well as family and friends.

Mayor Houston has been the mayor of Spruce Grove for 12 years. He is currently serving his fourth term in the position and at the conclusion of this term, which will end in October 2021, he will have served 14 consecutive years as mayor of Spruce Grove.

In this role, Mayor Houston has worked with four city managers and five councils. Prior to being elected as mayor, he served as a Spruce Grove alderman from 2001 to 2007.

Coun. Rothe was first elected to Spruce Grove City Council in October 1995. Since then, Rothe has served 24 consecutive years and is currently in his eighth term on council. At the conclusion of this term, he will have served for 26 years; 22 years as alderman (1995–2017) and four years as councillor (2017–2021).

Throughout his service, Rothe has worked with five city managers and nine councils.
