Local student becomes Fire Chief for the Day

November 17, 2021

Kate Kelemen, a Grade 2 student from Brookwood School, was declared Spruce Grove’s newest Fire Chief.

On Tuesday, November 16, Spruce Grove Fire Services Deputy Chief Chad Priebe, Assistant Deputy Chief Lorne Adamitz, and Fire Prevention Officer Jeff Francis, brought the pump truck to Brookwood School to present Fire Chief for the Day winner Kate Kelemen with a certificate, her own set of bunker gear, a fire helmet, coupons for McDonalds, and some Fire Services items for her class.

Fire Services staff spoke to Kate’s class about fire safety, what a firefighter’s job entails, that girls can be firefighters too and gave the entire class a tour of the pump truck.

Fire Chief for the Day is an annual initiative organized by Spruce Grove Fire Services that promotes fire safety and prevention to elementary aged students in Spruce Grove.
