Federal funding awarded for regional homelessness initiatives

November 20, 2020

The City of Spruce Grove and Stony Plain Family and Community Support Services, in partnership, have received funding from the Government of Canada for the Tri-Regional Housing and Homelessness Initiative. This program is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy, which Is administered by the Alberta Rural Development Network (ARDN).

This funding commitment is from 2020 – 2023 and supports various projects and services including community capacity and research projects to support regional collaboration and developing local data on housing and homelessness.

Some examples of how this funding is supporting the region include:

  • A Tri-Regional Housing Coordinator who is able to work with any member of the community experiencing, or at risk, of housing insecurity to acquire or maintain housing.
  • The Housing and Services Needs Estimate taking place throughout the month of October to collect data on who is experiencing homelessness or housing instability in region.
  • The Champions Table is supported through this funding and is a key collaboration in a broad Tri-Regional Poverty and Homelessness change initiative that focuses on reducing poverty and homelessness.
