Face coverings required in publicly accessible areas of all City indoor facilities

August 21, 2020

As the health and safety of our community and staff continues to be our top priority, the City’s Emergency Management Agency has decided to implement certain protocols around public access to indoor City facilities.

At this time, members of the public will be required to wear a face covering or mask in publicly accessible spaces in all City indoor facilities.

This will be in effect regardless of whether the City’s Temporary Mandatory Face Coverings Bylaw is active or inactive.

Mandatory face coverings will apply to the following scenarios:

  • Interactions/areas between City staff <-> public
  • Interactions/areas between public <-> public
  • Contractors in City facilities

At this point in time, the policy will apply to the following City facilities and areas:

Agrena
  • Grant Fuhr Arena – opening Monday, Aug. 24
  • Stu Barnes Arena – opening Tuesday, Sept. 8
  • Publicly accessible indoor areas include the lobby, stands, and washrooms
Fuhr Sports Park
City Hall
Border Paving Athletic Centre
  • Opening Tuesday, Sept. 1
  • Publicly accessible indoor areas include the lobby, ARPI’s North Rec Hub, washrooms, hallways, stairwell, and spectator areas
Protective Services Building
  • Currently open
  • Publicly accessible indoor areas include the front entrance/desk

In facilities where there are physical barriers between City staff/public (i.e. a plastic shield), staff are not required to wear a face covering. An exception to this is at the Protective Services building where staff have and will continue to follow the procedures in place as an accredited Health Care Facility.

Exceptions align with those in the City’s Temporary Mandatory Face Coverings Bylaw.

Members of the public will need to bring and wear their own face coverings; they will not be provided at City facilities.
