City Manager leaving organization later this month

City Manager Simon Farbrother will be leaving his positon with the City of Spruce Grove effective Sept. 24, 2020.

Spruce Grove City Council is expected to appoint an interim City Manager during the next City Council meeting on Sept. 14. The interim City Manager is expected to start on Sept. 25.

“I’d like to thank Simon for his guidance and support during his time with us,” said Mayor Stuart Houston. “He has been instrumental in helping us to navigate the unprecedented experience of COVID-19, and has helped us focus on the steps we need to continue taking to successfully make the transition to a mid-sized city. On behalf of City Council, I would like to wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Farbrother has accepted a position overseas where he will be working to help build an international tourist destination at a UNESCO world heritage site in Saudi Arabia.

“I have truly enjoyed my time with the City of Spruce Grove, and quite honestly I wasn’t planning to go anywhere, but this is an opportunity I couldn’t refuse,” said Farbrother. “It’s been a privilege and a pleasure to work with this City Council and the staff who all care deeply about this community. Spruce Grove is an exceptional city and I look forward to watching its continued growth and success.”
