April 17, 2019

In order to further respond to emerging social trends in Spruce Grove, the City is expanding its strategic focus to include Community Social Development.

The enhancement, which aligns with the 2018–2035 Strategic Plan  , will better position the City to anticipate and strategically respond to the long-term social needs of Spruce Grove’s current and future residents.

“This is an exciting next step for the City as we continue to find new, innovative ways to build capacity in our community and proactively preserve resiliency in our residents,” says Janine Peter, Director of Community Social Development. “Our goal is to work with, and empower, local groups to help ensure area residents can prosper in a supportive and healthy environment both today and into the future.”

Focused on bringing the City’s Social Sustainability Plan   to life, Community Social Development will help address changing social needs in Spruce Grove that are broad, complex and the result of a rapidly growing city, including:

  • Homelessness and poverty;
  • Diversity and inclusion;
  • Community engagement; and
  • Housing

Additionally, it supports collaboration between the City and community groups/stakeholders who have expertise and a unique understanding of social issues that have been identified or may arise in Spruce Grove.

Spruce Grove Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) will continue to operate its programs and services and provide support resources in Spruce Grove.
